During this day and age of decreased console exclusivity, bridges are forming among the different gaming platforms, and cross-platform multiplayer gaming has almost become universal. Whenever there’s a new multiplayer game on several platforms, the question of it being or not being cross-platform follows shortly. While games like GTA V still don’t support cross-platform gaming, most newer releases happen to be utilizing the cross-platform gaming scene. So, if you’re wondering if there’s cross-platform in Rocket League, we have some pleasant news.
Is Rocket League a Cross-Platform game?
Rocket League, thankfully, is an entirely cross-platform game, which means it can be played between people who own the game on completely different platforms. So if you own the game on PC and your friend owns it on PlayStation, the two of you can still play together.
The default matchmaking barely discriminates among platforms and can match you with players gaming from any platform. The game can be played among players on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
The limits of cross-platform play in Rocket League
While players from any platform can play Rocket League together, the game still features some aspects that are exclusive to certain platforms, and won’t work or show up for other platforms. For example, while the Nintendo Switch users can use Mario and Luigi skins, they won’t look the same to players on other platforms. They might also not be able to see your profile pictures.
Another major limitation is that you can’t voice chat with those playing on a different platform. You can, however, use the quick chat feature with them.
How to enable cross-platform gaming in Rocket League
While cross-play is enabled in the game’s settings by default, it’s still important to check out the settings for your game, especially in case the cross-platform play does not work.
- Launch Rocket League, and go to ‘Settings’, on the home page.
- Go to the gameplay tab, and check if the ‘Cross-Platform Play’ checkbox has a checkmark. If it doesn’t, simply click the empty checkbox and then save the settings.
You will then be able to play Rocket League with cross-platform play.
